Override landed two weeks ago and I still can't put it down.

So Chapter 7 Season 4 finally dropped on August 20, and it's called Override. The pitch is video games inside your video game โ€” Epic basically looked at the whole history of gaming and went "yes, all of it." Sonic's the headline act, there's a Green Hill Zone on the map, and the new Sprite system is the best thing to happen to my loadout in ages. Two weeks in, here's where I've landed. Literally. Mostly face-first.

The map got a retro face-lift

The big one: Calamari Canyon is gone, and in its place sits Green Hill Zone, complete with checkerboard hills and a loop I've now failed to run through cleanly nine times. There are three fresh major POIs plus a pile of smaller spots, so the drop map actually feels new again instead of the usual "same island, new paint."

The sneaky-best addition is the Override Consoles. Eight of them, scattered around the map, and using one rewrites the rules of the whole match โ€” faster sprinting, weird loot, movement tweaks. Holding one feels like being the kid who owns the cartridge everyone wants to borrow. Contested every single time, obviously. I've won two of those fights. I've lost... more.

The sprites are my new personality

Season 3's Sprites are back with a brand-new roster, and they change how you play. Feed the Klombo Sprite heals and it hands you random items. The Jackrabbit Sprite gives you a second jump mid-air, which has saved my bacon off more cliffs than I'll admit. There's a Shadow one that reloads your guns even when they're holstered โ€” rude not to run it, honestly.

Now, the skins

The battle pass is stacked: eight outfits, and Sonic himself is the marquee reward. My honest take โ€” K1TTYW1NS is the one I'm grinding for. Yeah, yeah, Sonic. He's great. But a neon cat that wins? That's the whole game right there.

The Item Shop gets the rest of the guest list later in the season โ€” Crash, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Persona 5, Kingdom Hearts. My wallet felt that sentence.

Where I'm dropping

The island as of the v42.00 update. Green Hill first, obviously.

Green Hill first, every time, because I'm incapable of learning. Then whichever Override Console the bus path lets me reach without fighting half the lobby.

Worth it?

800 V-Bucks, and for once I don't feel robbed. The consoles alone keep every match slightly off the rails, in a good way. If you bounced off Fortnite earlier this year, Override is a genuinely fun reason to drop back in. I'll be the one falling off the Green Hill loop. Say hi.
